APPEAL

At a time when the struggle for Indian Independence was at its height, it was thought desirable to help the movement by educating illiterate masses and making them understand how Democracy and Democratic Institutions alone would go a long way in bringing happiness to Indians. With this idea in view, the Navabharat Night School was founded in the year 1943 by Hajee Khalid Mohammed, though this task was not aided by the then alien Government. Ever since its inception, the School began to function as a very effective instrument in wiping out mass illiteracy and thus producing by its diverse activities, a host of patriotic citizens who did much for the cause of India's freedom in different ways.

Even after attaining freedom, it was felt that illiteracy masses were an obstacle in running our Democratic Institutions efficiently. So, it was decided to promote the cause of Adult Education with greater zeal. A Society was formed under the name “Navabharat Education Society” Mangalore, and it was registered under the Act XXI of 1860. This Society has been running the school. It has also started a free Reading Room and Public Library which are now being made use of by a large number of men and women including the Students of the School. It has been struggling hard since then to root out illiteracy by implementing several schemes. A Computer Training Centre was also started in the year 2001 with the help of M/s. ESSO PETROLEUM INDIA Pvt (LTD.)

It is regretted to state here that the Government has not rendered any Grant so far and the school is running with the help and the encouragement given by the General Public of Mangalore and the minimum tuition fees collected from the students.

The Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee had constructed a new “Golden Jubilee Building” in the year 1994 and the School is now functioning in this Golden Jubilee Building. To mark the Diamond Jubilee, Late Mrs. Fathima Khalid, wife of our founder Late Hajee Khalid Mohammed donated Diamond Jubilee auditorium to the School constructed by family members of the founder.

We have so far produced more than 14,000 literates, of which a large number of students have settled well in their life. We are proud to mention here that in the list of old students, we have Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers and other higher Officials.

After the demise of the founder Late Sri Khalid Mohammad in 2005, as per his last wishes Navabharat Night High School Education Society decided to take a very bold step of offering free education to all the students studying in I to X std classes in spite of having financial constraints. Soon it was implemented, and since then School has been offering free education to all students studying in I to X std classes, which continues till today mostly because of the generous contributions from our donors and well-wishers and social service organizations.

Over the years our Institution has grown in stature. The cause of education being noble, the Society and mankind have not only recognized and appreciated, but it has also always lent a helping hand as and when required. But for the generous contributions received over the years from all our generous donors, it would have been impossible task to run the Institution and raise it to such a level of public esteem.

The school is now entering its 80th year of yeoman service to the illiterates and is planning to celebrate its 80th year of Adult Education and 100th Birth Anniversary of the Founder Late Hajee Khalid Mohammed, Architect of Adult Education.

As part of these celebrations and as per the long pending wish of the Founder as well as the old students to transform the night school to evening college, the School Management is planning to start Day & Night Pre-University College to mark the occasion. In order to fulfill the wishes, there is an urgent need to purchase a land near the school and build a Pre-University college building. As per the rough estimate, the entire project of purchasing land and constructing the new college building would cost around 5 crores.

Please note that this School belongs to the Public and it is run for the public through Navabharat Education Society(facilitators). Hence, we need public financial support, cooperation and generous contribution to elevate this night school to college status and make this the only institution in the country run by the PUBLIC.

Hence, We, the management make a humble request to the Generous Public, Old Students and all the Well-wishers of the Navabharat Night School to contribute their best to fulfill this task and make our dream a reality to serve all the poor students.

ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಹೋರಾಟವು ಉತ್ತುಂಗದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ಅನಕ್ಷರಸ್ಥ ಜನಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನೀಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಚಳುವಳಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಅಪೇಕ್ಷಣೀಯವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಪ್ರಜಾಪ್ರಭುತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಜಾಸತ್ತಾತ್ಮಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ಭಾರತೀಯರಿಗೆ ಸಂತೋಷವನ್ನು ತರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಗೆ ಬಹಳ ದೂರ ಹೋಗುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಅಗತ್ಯವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಆಲೋಚನೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ, ನವಭಾರತ್ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಶಾಲೆಯನ್ನು 1943 ರಲ್ಲಿ ದಿವಂಗತ ಹಾಜೀ ಖಾಲಿದ್ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಅವರು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು, ಆದರೂ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗಿನ ಅನ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಪ್ರಾರಂಭದಿಂದಲೂ ಶಾಲೆಯು ಸಾಮೂಹಿಕ ಅನಕ್ಷರತೆಯನ್ನು ತೊಡೆದುಹಾಕಲು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿ ಸಾಧನವಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿತು. ಆ ಮೂಲಕ ತನ್ನ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯಮಯ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಂದ, ವಿವಿಧ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯದ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ ದೇಶಭಕ್ತ ನಾಗರಿಕರನ್ನು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದೆ.

ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಪಡೆದ ನಂತರವೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಜಾಸತ್ತಾತ್ಮಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಮರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸಲು ಜನಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರ ಅನಕ್ಷರತೆ ಅಡ್ಡಿಯಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟರು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ ವಯಸ್ಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಕಾರಣವನ್ನು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. "ನವಭಾರತ್ ಎಜುಕೇಶನ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿ "ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಸೊಸೈಟಿಯನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಲಾಯಿತು ಮತ್ತು ಇದನ್ನು 1860 ರ ಕಾಯಿದೆ XXI ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಂದಾಯಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ಈ ಸೊಸೈಟಿ ಶಾಲೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇದು ಉಚಿತ ವಾಚನಾಲಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಸಹ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದೆ, ಇದನ್ನು ಈಗ ಶಾಲೆಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಪುರುಷರು ಮತ್ತು ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಬಳಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಂದಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಹಲವಾರು ಯೋಜನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಜಾರಿಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಅನಕ್ಷರತೆಯನ್ನು ಬೇರು ಸಮೇತ ಕಿತ್ತೊಗೆಯಲು ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಹೋರಾಟ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. M/s ESSO ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲಿಯಂ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ಪ್ರೈವೇಟ್ (LTD.) ಸಹಾಯದಿಂದ 2001 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ತರಬೇತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರವನ್ನು ಸಹ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ಇಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರವಾಗಲಿ ಅಥವಾ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಾಗಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಅನುದಾನವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿಲ್ಲ ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರ ಸಹಾಯ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಂದ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದ ಕನಿಷ್ಠ ಬೋಧನಾ ಶುಲ್ಕದಿಂದ ಶಾಲೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಲು ವಿಷಾದವಿದೆ.

&emspಸುವರ್ಣ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವ ಆಚರಣಾ ಸಮಿತಿಯು 1994 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ "ಗೋಲ್ಡನ್ ಜ್ಯೂಬಿಲಿ ಬಿಲ್ಡಿಂಗ್" ಅನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಲೆಯು ಈಗ ಈ ಸುವರ್ಣ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವ ಕಟ್ಟಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ವಜ್ರ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವದ ಅಂಗವಾಗಿ, ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ದಿವಂಗತ ಹಾಜೀ ಖಾಲಿದ್ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಅವರ ಪತ್ನಿ ದಿವಂಗತ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಫಾತಿಮಾ ಖಾಲಿದ್ ಅವರು ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕರ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದ ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಡೈಮಂಡ್ ಜುಬಿಲಿ ಸಭಾಂಗಣವನ್ನು ಕೊಡುಗೆಯಾಗಿ ನೀಡಿದರು.

ಇದುವರೆಗೆ 14,000 ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಅಕ್ಷರಸ್ಥರನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸಿದೆ, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತಮವಾಗಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹಳೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವೈದ್ಯರು, ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್‌ಗಳು, ವಕೀಲರು ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಉನ್ನತ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಇದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಲು ನಾವು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಪಡುತ್ತೇವೆ.

2005 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ದಿವಂಗತ ಶ್ರೀ ಖಾಲಿದ್ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಅವರ ನಿಧನದ ನಂತರ, ಅವರ ಕೊನೆಯ ಇಚ್ಛೆಯಂತೆ ನವಭಾರತ್ ನೈಟ್ ಹೈಸ್ಕೂಲ್ ಎಜುಕೇಶನ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿಯು ಒಂದರಿಂದ ಹತ್ತನೇ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುತ್ತಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಉಚಿತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದಿಟ್ಟ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಯನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿತು. ಹಣಕಾಸಿನ ಅಡಚಣೆಗಳ ಹೊರತಾಗಿಯೂ, ಶೀಘ್ರದಲ್ಲೇ ಇದು ಕಾರ್ಯರೂಪಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿತು ಮತ್ತು ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ಶಾಲೆಯು I ರಿಂದ X std ತರಗತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುತ್ತಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಉಚಿತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದೆ, ಇದು ನಮ್ಮ ದಾನಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಹಿತೈಷಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಾ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಉದಾರ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಮುಂದುವರೆದಿದೆ.

ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯು ಎತ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆದಿದೆ. ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವು ಉದಾತ್ತವಾಗಲು ಕಾರಣ, ಸಮಾಜ ಮತ್ತು ಮನುಕುಲವು ಗುರುತಿಸಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಶಂಸಿಸಿದ್ದು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ, ಅಗತ್ಯವಿರುವಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಅಗತ್ಯವಿರುವಾಗ ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಸಹಾಯ ಹಸ್ತವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಉದಾರ ದಾನಿಗಳಿಂದ ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಪಡೆದ ಉದಾರ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ, ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಅದನ್ನು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಗೌರವದ ಮಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಏರಿಸುವುದು ಅಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದ ಕೆಲಸ.

ಅನಕ್ಷರಸ್ಥರಿಗೆ ನಿಸ್ವಾರ್ಥ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಈ ಶಾಲೆ ಈಗ 80ನೇ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಲಿಡುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಶಾಲೆಯು ಈಗ ವಯಸ್ಕರ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ 80 ನೇ ವರ್ಷವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ವಯಸ್ಕರ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ದಿವಂಗತ ಹಾಜೀ ಖಾಲಿದ್ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಅವರ 100 ನೇ ಜನ್ಮ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕೋತ್ಸವವನ್ನು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಅದ್ಧೂರಿಯಾಗಿ ಆಚರಿಸಲು ಯೋಜಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಈ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳ ಭಾಗವಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಹಳೆಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ದೀರ್ಘಾವಧಿಯ ಆಶಯದಂತೆ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಶಾಲೆಯನ್ನು ಸಂಜೆ ಕಾಲೇಜಿಗೆ ಪರಿವರ್ತಿಸಲು, ಶಾಲಾ ಆಡಳಿತವು ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭವನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಲು ಡೇ & ನೈಟ್ ಪ್ರಿ-ಯೂನಿವರ್ಸಿಟಿ ಕಾಲೇಜನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಲು ಯೋಜಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇಷ್ಟಾರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಈಡೇರಿಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಸಮೀಪದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಜಾಗ ಖರೀದಿಸಿ ಪ.ಪೂ.ಕಾಲೇಜು ಕಟ್ಟಡ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುವ ತುರ್ತು ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದೆ. ಸ್ಥೂಲ ಅಂದಾಜಿನ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿಸಿ ಹೊಸ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಕಟ್ಟಡವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುವ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಯೋಜನೆಗೆ ಸುಮಾರು 5 ಕೋಟಿ ವೆಚ್ಚವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಶಾಲೆಯು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ್ದು ಮತ್ತು ಇದನ್ನು ನವಭಾರತ್ ಎಜುಕೇಶನ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿ (ಅನುಕೂಲಕರು) ಮೂಲಕ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರಿಗಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ಗಮನಿಸಿ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಈ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಶಾಲೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾಲೇಜು ಸ್ಥಾನಮಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಏರಿಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ದೇಶದ ಏಕೈಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಲು ನಮಗೆ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಬೆಂಬಲ, ಸಹಕಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಉದಾರ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದೆ.
